Refined By Time

An urban explorer scales the ladder of the abandoned refinery storage tank.

Earlier this year, I determined to explore California and hopefully, find some abandoned treasures along the way. While in SoCal, this abandoned oil refinery caught my attention.

Where do we need to be right now?

No light at the end of the staircase.

This thing turned on?

Unauthorized.

This site is in the process of being cleaned up since its closure in the 1980s.

The facility is now a glorified storage unit with all kinds of petroleum-related items.

Such as fuel station pumps…

And lots more signage.

Feels like a trick of the mind.

These tanks, built in the 1950s, are the remnants of an old Shell ammonia plant. Rumor has it they will be torn down soon.

The best part of wakin’ up, am I right?

Galactic colors spilled across the floor.

The oil refinery as seen from a bird’s eye view.
